LASIK Eye Surgery - What to Expect

The pre-operative exam is a very thorough exam of the eyes,
not only to determine stability of your eyeglasses prescription but also to rule out any corneal
abnormalities and other eye diseases such as glaucoma or retinal conditions that would be
incompatible with LASIK Eye Surgery .Often treatment of the underlying
condition can qualify a patient for laser surgery at a future date. The exam includes a review of your medical history as well as your ocular history .We then perform multiple cross-checks of your current glasses or contacts prescription with and without dilating drops, check pupil sizes, test your tear film production, take your eye pressures and then do a thorough exam of the back of your eye. Other tests include a computerized mapping of your corneal surface (topography) and corneal thickness measurements (pachymetry ). The pre-operative exam usually involves two appointments and is tailored to each individual depending on the circumstances. Your surgeon will review your examination findings and discuss your options. |
